Rijkswaterstaat (Government Agency for Waterways and Public Works) is part of the Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure & Environment and responsible for the design, construction, management and maintenance of the main transport infrastructure facilities in the Netherlands. This includes the main road network, the main waterway network and water systems. Rijkswaterstaat is highly qualified in applying integrated water management, resulting in dry feet, sufficient clean water, and reliable and useful information. In addition, assurance of smooth and safe transport by water are also important focus areas. The agency has gained extensive knowledge and cooperates with sister organisations, universities and many European and overseas authorities and government agencies. Rijkswaterstaat also participates in several European research programs.
